In a little over a week I'll be starting my second internship. I'm very excited for this one. I will be working with many different animals, some of which can be found in Africa. Things like giraffes, tigers, zebras, ostriches, wildebeest, a lion, and some cranes will be some of what I'm taking care of. The internship is a general care internship so I'll be learning things that have to do with diet and cleaning as well as some minor veterinary procedures. There was talk of me even seeing some artificial insemination of the cranes that call the zoo their home, but I'm not sure if this will actually happen or not.
I'm also going to be designing a new enclosure for two new ostriches that the zoo has. The zoo has four total ostriches, two adults, and the two new ones are younger. I believe they're about a year or so old. I'm excited about this, although I don't know how I feel about them being birds. I'm not really a fan of birds but my supervisor says that they're more like caring for livestock than birds.
That's all for now until I start on the 22nd!
